Sonya Blade And Kano Actors Confirmed For Mortal Kombat Movie Reboot

The stage is set for the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie reboot. The James Wan-produced film has been a long time coming for many fans of the popular fighting game series.

This latest development sees the casting of two more iconic Kombatants: the Earthrealm Special Forces badass Sonya Blade and her archnemesis, the Black Dragon leader Kano.

Starring as Sonya Blade will be Jessica McNamee (The Meg), and opposite her as Kano will be Josh Lawson (House of Lies).

There is also a third new casting in Lewis Tan (Wu Assassins, Deadpool 2), but it remains to be seen who he’ll be playing as. Our hunch is that he could be Johnny Cage, but we’ll only find out in due time.

McNamee and Lawson join an ever-growing list of stars who will play other iconic Mortal Kombat characters. Currently, we have:

  • Sub-Zero – Joe Taslim
  • Jax – Mehcad Brooks
  • Raiden – Tadanobu Asano
  • Liu Kang – Ludi Lin
  • Mileena – Sisi Stringer
  • Sonya Blade – Jessica McNamee
  • Kano – Josh Lawson
  • ??? – Lewis Tan

Of course, Wan and debutant director Simon McQuoid are still searching high and low for the rest of the cast, we believe. The likes of Scorpion and Shao Kahn have yet to be cast, so it’s only a matter of time before we find out who’ll be filling in the shoes of these two iconic fighters.

Maybe, perhaps maybe, they could even consider Arnold Schwarzenegger to play as the Terminator T-800?

Mortal Kombat is set to begin production at the end of this year, and is slated to release sometime in 2021.
