‘Monster Hunter Wilds’ Sets Second Open Beta, Teases Fight With Game’s Flagship Monster Arkveld

As excitement continues to build for the impending release of Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom is pulling out all the stops with its last push for momentum. The Japanese giant has shared more details in its latest showcase for the highly-anticipated title, including new monster designs, dates for a second open beta, and the addition of a benchmark tool.

For starters, a trailer featuring the new frosty locale of Iceshard Cliffs promises plenty of monster-slaying fun to come. The never-been-seen Hirabami is introduced as a Leviathan, possessing sail-like membranes that allow them to float and strike from the air with their razor-sharp tails, with fan favourites Nerscylla and Gore Magala also returning to the fold.

Joining in on the action is Arkveld, the game’s flagship monster (surprise!) that can be challenged in the second open beta. It will run from 11 am to 10.59 pm (GMT+8) across two windows: 7 to 11 February and 14 to 17 February, allowing players to hunt first-generation beast Gypceros on top of the aforementioned “White Wraith”.

Just like the previous outing, Open Beta 2 includes character creation with transferable data, a story mission, and free-roaming hunts with cross-platform multiplayer, alongside additional online features like Private Lobbies and Online Single Player mode. It should be noted that recently announced performance and balance adjustments won’t be live.

For those particular about frame rates, the Monster Hunter Wilds benchmark tool offers a means of measuring their PC performance starting today. The latest instalment in the long-running franchise launches on 28 February 2025, but is now available for pre-order across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam via PC.
