Geek Review: MOMAX LED Desk Lamp

While it might not light the darkest parts of our hearts, the MOMAX LED desk lamp will certainly look stylish while doing so, which is good enough since it’s not in the same league as the Dyson Lightcycle Morph Task Light in terms of price

Measuring in at 195mm x 117mm (base), the MOMAX LED desk lamp extends horizontally out 420mm for its light bar and has a height of 444mm. The only thing that can be adjusted is the angle in which the light shines towards and it’s unable to boom up and down. While this might be a concern to some, that’s where the desk lamp’s adjustable brightness comes into play.

If there’s one thing that makes this lamp stand out, it has to be the design. The MOMAX LED desk lamp looks sleek and modern. Its aesthetics allow it to match pretty much any table setup. Our lamp is the grey variant which looks more like a brushed gunmetal finish that feels smooth to the touch.

Achieving a maximum brightness of 380 lumens, the lamp is extremely bright in a dim room. This makes it perfect to focus on the task at hand if you are looking to do miniature painting and the like. Being able to rotate 270° allows the lamp to stay out of your way while perfectly illuminating the subject. However, because of its less focused light bar, the light diffuses too much the further the subject is from the lamp. If you’re looking to use this lamp for studying and reading, this is an ideal companion. For other activities, your mileage may vary.

With 6 varying degrees of brightness, the MOMAX LED desk lamp also has 5 colour temperatures which range from warm to cool lighting which is helpful if you’re looking to change up the mood in the room. Warmer lights make the room more welcoming while opting for something cooler, which means you’re ready for that productivity grind. All these controls are managed via a touch sensor which tends not to go the distance over time. If there was a physical control variant, that would be our immediate pick.

As an extra value add, the base of the MOMAX LED desk lamp features a wireless charger as well for your mobile devices. Sadly with Qi-compatible wireless charging only able to hit a maximum of 10W, don’t expect super fast charging speeds. On top of that, it seems extremely sensitive and the phone has to be placed just at the right angle to start charging.

Given its relatively affordable price of US$62, the MOMAX LED desk lamp is an easy recommendation. Just don’t expect it to do wonders outside of general illumination and look good while doing so.
