Action thriller Speed was one of the hottest movies in 1994, and no one could forget the chemistry between Annie Porter and Jack Traven, played by Sandra Bullock (Ocean’s 8) and Keanu Reeves (John Wick). More than twenty years later, the duo recently reunited on the 50 MPH podcast to talk about the film, and expressed interest in returning for a potential Speed 3.
Their performance in Speed earned the movie rave reviews, following passengers on a bus that is rigged by an extortionist to explode if its speed falls below 50 miles per hour. Bomb disposal officer Jack Traven has to stop the bus from meeting a fiery demise, while passenger Annie Porter ends up having to drive.
Only Bullock returned for Speed 2: Cruise Control, which crashed and burned at the box office, but both Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have held out hope for a reunion in Speed 3. “I mean, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park,” Reeves remarked. “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera.” Bullock added, and the pair are on the same page.
Bullock and Reeves last shared the spotlight in 2006’s The Lake House, acting as romantic leads once more. And they’ve both had crushes on each other before, though eventually preferred to remain friends.
Speed director Jan de Bont (Twister) however, has long retired, with his last directorial outing being Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life in 2003. and last served as a producer on The Paperboy in 2012. It’s unlikely de Bont will return to make another Speed movie, but anything’s possible in an era of reviving old film franchises.
