The promotion for Loki season 2 is getting… saucy?
Marvel Studios and McDonald’s have teamed up to release a special sauce for the upcoming second season of Loki. The fast-food chain first caught the attention of fans when it released a mischievous video on X (formerly known as Twitter) with the caption, “no spoilers”.
The video featured snippets from various movies and TV shows that referenced McDonald’s over the years from the likes of Seinfeld, Coming to America and if you pay close attention, from Loki season 2. The brief clip from Loki sees Sylvie (Sophia Di Martino) working in a fast-food restaurant.
McDonald’s later followed it up with a picture of a folded takeaway bag and the text ‘8.14.23’ on it. The photo tease more details to come on 14 August but it looks like someone has already let the cat out of the bag. Or rather, the sauce.
Several TikTok videos revealed that the collaboration is a new Loki-inspired packaging for McDonald’s Sweet and Sour sauce. The sauce packaging is now teal-coloured (much like Loki’s costume) and has ‘As featured on Marvel Studios Loki’ written on it.
According to ComicBook.com, the sweet and sour sauce will be part of a special meal that includes a choice of 10-piece Chicken McNuggets, Quarter Pounder with Cheese or a Big Mac with medium-sized fries and a drink.
The collaboration will roll out in 100 countries worldwide. As of now, it is unclear if the collaboration will be available in Singapore.
As of now, it is unclear if the collaboration is a simple rebrand or if it will come with a new recipe or new promotional items. It is also unclear if the collaboration will be available worldwide or in select regions. Guess we’ll only find out come 14 August.
Season two of Loki will pick up in the aftermath of season one’s finale where Sylvie kills He Who Remains (Jonathan Majors) and unravels the multiverse as we know it. The upcoming season’s official trailer was released last week and saw Loki, played by Tom Hiddleston, reunite with Mobius. M. Mobius (Owen Wilson) as they set on another timely adventure.
Season two also brings back Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Wunmi Mosaku while adding Ke Huy Quan as a character named OB.
Season 2 of Loki premieres on Disney+ on 6 October.
