‘Call of Duty’ Breaks New Ground With Carry-Over System In ‘Modern Warfare 3’

For two decades, Call of Duty enthusiasts have experienced a predictable cycle — leaving behind achievements of the past with each new game release, and embracing a fresh start. This age-old tradition is about to be upended, however, as players will be able to carry over their hard-earned weapons and cosmetics from 2022’s Modern Warfare 2 to the upcoming Modern Warfare 3.

Activation Blizzard has confirmed that weapon camouflages, meticulously chosen attachment combinations, and premium battle pass skins will be in place when it launches on 10 November 2023. It’s a rewarding nod to those who’ve dedicated countless hours to the game in the past year.

However, there are a couple of caveats. Certain cosmetics specific to vehicles absent in Modern Warfare 3 won’t transfer over. Similarly, the “War Tracks” – exclusive songs for vehicle radios – are not slated for the new game. But, in an unprecedented move, the two games will be tightly integrated, so much so that levelling up weapons in Modern Warfare 2 will directly influence progress in Modern Warfare 3.

This cross-progression feature, while user-friendly, does bring up some questions. With Modern Warfare 3 releasing merely a year after its predecessor, and without Infinity Ward’s involvement, will it possess its own unique flair? Or, given the deep intertwining of multiplayer features, might it come across more as an extension of the earlier game than a fresh chapter?

Anticipation for Modern Warfare 3 is building. Fans are eagerly awaiting a full reveal event slated for 17 August inside Warzone, expected to climax with an exciting trailer. Additionally, a recent teaser has set the gaming community abuzz, spotlighting the return of the enigmatic antagonist, Makarov.
