Kingdom Hearts Creator Teases New Game Planned For 20th Anniversary In 2022

Come 2022, it will be the 20th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts and it seems that fans will have a brand new game in the franchise to look forward to.

In an interview with Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via @aitaikimochi), Kingdom Hearts creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed that he and his team are already hard at work on the next instalment in the long-running series.

Unfortunately, he did not reveal much else about the next title beyond how he thinks it will “surprise” some and that his team is currently working towards having the game released in 2022, just in time for the series’ 20th anniversary.

Due to Nomura’s statement on the game being a “surprise” to fans, many have ruled out the possibility of it being Kingdom Hearts IV. Though some have pointed out that it still could be KH4, considering how it took more than a decade for 2019’s Kingdom Hearts III to arrive. The fourth game arriving so shortly after will certainly be a surprise to many.

For now, we can only wait and see what Nomura and his team have to offer. In the meantime, fans of the series can check out other games in the franchise such as Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memories, which will release this November.
