Square Enix Brings Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts & Dragon Quest Touch To Pet Product Line

Pets love being treated like royalty (honestly, who doesn’t?), and Square Enix’s SQEX Pets division is bringing a geeky flair into the mix. After many decades of enjoying the distinct design language of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts, fans can now ride the hype train alongside their furry companions.

Spanning these three flagship franchises, the company’s new product line leads with a Buster Sword rope toy, which takes after Cloud’s iconic weapon in Final Fantasy VII. The ever-lovable Slime continues to be the face of Dragon Quest, brought to life as a pet house and a design motif on a pair of bandanas.

For a more complete getup, there’s the Sora-themed dogwear that adds a Kingdom Hearts touch to canine fashion. Rounding out the collection are Paopu Fruit rope toys and a patterned aesthetic for a pet bed, leash, bandana, and mat.

The pricing and official on-sale dates have yet to be announced, with a second wave of merchandise — including scratching posts and a Moogle bed — set to release in due time. Unfortunately for international fans, the store is only available in Japan for now.

More notably, Tetsuya Nomura, who works as a character designer, game designer and director for the Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy series, supervised the product lineup for both properties. The Square Enix veteran also contributed the logo design for the latter, featuring Cait Sith and Red XIII of Final Fantasy VII fame.
