Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR Comic Gets 2-Season Anime On Netflix & Upcoming Novel

The brutal comic BRZRKR anime series is set for two seasons on Netflix, the comic publisher Boom! Studios’ Stephen Christy announced during a panel at the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2022.

The anime is being produced by the Japanese animation studio Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell). This is a separate series that will be telling a more contained story compared to the live-action movie adaptation (also upcoming on Netflix) which will be more open-ended,.

BRZRKR (pronounced berzerker) is written by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt, and illustrated by Marvel artist Ron Garney. It is a brutal epic saga about ‘B’, an immortal demigod who has spent 80,000 years cursed and compelled to violence. After wandering the world for centuries, B is now working for the US Government in the hopes of finding a way to end his unnaturally long life.

Reeves is set to star in the live-action movie and will be voicing B in the anime series.

During the panel, Reeves also revealed that he is developing a BRZRKR novel with a New York Times bestselling author. He didn’t share a name but he said it was one of his favourite authors and the project will be a collaboration.

“We met in Berlin and it was really cool,” Reeves said at SDCC 2022. “They had read the comic and they enjoyed it and they had a lot of questions and they were open and curious. This will be a collaboration. He’s been kind enough… oh, I said he, whoops…”

The BRZRKR comics is currently set to publish its final story arc in September, with issue #12 planned to be a double-sized finale. No plans yet for a sequel but the comic creators hinted that spin-off comics with guest creators might happen. No date has been announced for the premiere of BRZRKR anime on Netflix yet.
