Jason Momoa Returns To DCU As Lobo In ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’

Aquaman actor Jason Momoa is swapping out his trident for a chained hook, returning to the DC Universe (DCU) as anti-hero Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Momoa confirmed his new role via Instagram, where he uploaded a quote from his interview with Fandango during a press tour for 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, alongside the caption “They called.”

His new role marks a stark departure from his appearance as the King of Atlantis in the 2018 superhero movie Aquaman and its sequel, switching sides to portray a villain and anti-hero. Lobo is a ruthless interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, most known for his rugged looks, biker getup, and signature chained hook weapon, which he often uses while riding his iconic Spacehog speeder bike.

Momoa’s Lobo will appear alongside Milly Alcock’s (House of the Dragon) Kara Zor-El in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Other cast members include Matthias Schoenaerts (Red Sparrow) as Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley (3 Body Problem) as Ruthye Mary Knolle.

Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya, Cruella) and written by Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries), the film will be the second entry in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rebooted DC Universe following Superman in 2025. Plot details are still being kept under wraps for now, but Gunn had previously teased during a press preview that the movie will feature a “much more hardcore” version of Supergirl.

“We see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he’s an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock chip off of Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life,” Gunn revealed.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is set to begin production on 13 January 2025, with its theatrical release slated for 26 June 2026.
