Honor Magic V6 Gaming Test — Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero & Genshin Impact

As phone brands race to compete for the next big innovations in foldable technology, it’s all about who has the most features, the best camera, the slimmest chassis, or any combination of the three. For the Honor Magic V6, the company’s next flagship foldable, durability might be the name of the game, but what about its performance, specifically where gaming is concerned?

Honor’s latest foldable boasts a 6.52-inch LTPO2 OLED cover display when folded, offering a 2,420 x 1,080 resolution at a 120Hz refresh rate. When in its tablet mode, this expands to a 7.95-inch, 2,352 x 2,172 resolution LTPO2 AMOLED screen featuring the same 120Hz support, all while measuring just 4mm at its thinnest point.

Under the hood, the Honor Magic V6 sports a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 CPU alongside an Adreno 840 GPU, with our review unit featuring 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. On paper, these do mark an overall upgrade compared to its V5 predecessor, but how well do these improvements translate in practice?

When faced with a gaming gauntlet of Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero and Genshin Impact, the Honor Magic V6’s performance is unfortunately a mixed bag. The phone struggled to keep up with Wuthering Wave’s intense graphical fidelity and ran at sub-50FPS throughout, and things fared similarly with Zenless Zone Zero. With Genshin Impact, the game was strangely locked to 40FPS even after tweaking both the device and in-game settings, so all signs point to more optimisation being needed post-launch. On the flipside, the phone’s thermal management was impressive, and it’s also quite battery efficient, which does make it a pretty enticing mobile gaming contender once the optimisation issues are addressed.
