His Dark Materials, the fantasy adventure based on Philip Pullman’s novels, have finally locked in a release date for its second season.
Premiering 16 November 2020, this big-budget co-production between HBO and BBC begins after Lord Asriel opens a bridge to a new world and brings lead character Lyra Silvertongue with him into a strange and abandoned city. There, Lyra meets with Will Parry, who’s in search of his father. Meanwhile, Mrs Coulter is on a manhunt for Lyra, determined to bring her home by any means necessary, whilst trouble looms in The Magisterium.
The second season of His Dark Materials is based on Pullman’s second book, The Subtle Knife. Talks for later seasons to adapt Pullman’s last book The Amber Spyglass are emerging as show writer Jack Throne has started prepping scripts for a potential season 3.
Season 2 will see the return of regulars Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson, Amir Wilson, Ariyon Bakare, Andrew Scott, Will Keen, Ruta Gedmintas and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Joining the cast this season are Terence Stamp, Jade Anouka and Simone Kirby.
