HBO’s The Last of Us Season 3 is adding some familiar faces to its lineup, with original game voice cast Laura Bailey and Ian Alexander joining the series adaptation alongside John Goodman.
As reported by Variety, Bailey and Alexander, who portrayed Abby and Lev, respectively, in 2020’s The Last of Us Part II, will now take on live-action roles, albeit for different characters. Bailey, who’s well-known in the gaming industry for her work across multiple titles such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Infamous: Second Son, and Marvel’s Spider-Man, will play Elizabeth, one of the leaders of the Seraphites in the show. Alexander, on the other hand, previously appeared on the Netflix series The OA and will now play Paco, one half of a duo known as “Heroes of the Highway”, two new characters being added to the show.
The other half of the duo, Joey, will be played by John Goodman, a familiar face in Hollywood and known for his work on movies like 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Flintstones, and Monsters, Inc. The three new cast members will join Season 3’s returning cast of Kaitlyn Dever, Bella Ramsey, Isabella Merced, and Gabriel Luna as Abby, Ellie, Dina, and Tommy, respectively.
The Last of Us series was co-created by Craig Mazin and game creator Neil Druckmann, and is based on the hit Naughty Dog post-apocalyptic video game, which centres on a group of survivors journeying across a ravaged America after the country was hit by a deadly Cordyceps infection that turned the population into fungus-covered infected. It was previously announced that Druckmann would be exiting the show ahead of Season 3, with Mazin left as the sole showrunner of what could potentially be its last season.
The Last of Us Season 3 will retell the harrowing final days of Season Two from the perspective of Abby and offer fresh insight into the lives of the WLF members and their battle with the Scars, with its release date planned for 2027.
