Almost 17 years after the release of the 2008 action superhero movie Hancock, leading man Will Smith has teased that its sequel is in the works, with Dune star Zendaya being eyed for a role in the upcoming film.
Making an appearance on xQc’s live stream on Twitch, Smith answered fan questions and provided more information on the project. “There’s a really cool Hancock 2 idea, we haven’t even talked about it,” he said during the stream, “I’m gonna give you one little piece, Zendaya is being approached for a role in [the film].”

The original Hancock movie was directed by Peter Berg and starred Smith as the titular hero, an amnesiac and alcoholic who was content with the damage caused around him due to his recklessness. His co-stars included Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman, who played a couple who worked with Hancock to improve his public image and remember his past. The film was a massive hit, garnering a box office of US$629.4 million on its US$150 million budget.
The film’s sequel has been in the works since its original release, with Berg confirming with MTV News in 2009 that Smith and Theron would return, saying that “Everybody’s going to come back for a sequel.” Since then, little information has been revealed about the project, with Berg stating during a 2012 interview with ComicBookMovie that they were having “trouble getting [everyone] into the same room at the same time”. Theron also acknowledged in a 2020 ComicBook interview that there had been talks to do a sequel, expressing her support to be a part of the film and that she “would do it in a heartbeat”.
