‘God of War’ Amazon TV Series Finds Its Kratos In Thor Voice Actor Ryan Hurst

Amazon and Sony Pictures’ live-action God of War series adaptation has found its lead in a familiar face (or voice), as Ryan Hurst, who played the Norse god Thor in the 2022 game God of War Ragnarök, will now take on the mantle of Kratos instead.

Based on PlayStation’s hit hack-and-slash video game series, God of War has received a two-season order, with pre-production underway in Vancouver. While the video game franchise traces its roots to 2005 and originally followed the tale of Kratos as he sets out on a bloody path to destroy the Olympian gods as revenge for the death of his family, the TV series will instead adapt the storyline of the two most recent games.

Based on the 2018 game reboot of the same name, the God of War series will follow Kratos, who now lives a life of seclusion with his son, Atreus. As per the logline, the duo embarks on a “journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god, while Atreus tries to teach his father how to be a better human.”

Originally voiced by Terrence C. Carson in the first three mainline games, followed by Christopher Judge in the two most recent titles, Ryan Hurst will now bring the iconic god killer Kratos to life, with the Sons of Anarchy star bringing established familiarity with the franchise to the role, as he played Thor, one of the more complex villains in recent video game memory, in God of War Ragnarök.

While no release date has been announced, the first two episodes of God of War will be directed by Frederick E.O. Toye (Shōgun, Fallout), with the series co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
