Prime Video’s God of War series is steadily gaining momentum behind the scenes, with the streaming giant ordering two seasons of the show under the leadership of showrunner Ronald D. Moore, who ironically can’t handle the games.
Making an appearance on actress Katee Sackhoff’s YouTube channel, Moore brought up the topic of the series while responding to a question on his current projects. “Right now I’m working on the adaptation of this video game called God of War, that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they asked me to come in, I’m literally in the writer’s room and that’s my new thing,” he said.

Moore also admitted that the God of War IP was fresh territory for him as someone who had not played video games since the early days of arcade gaming. He explained that despite giving 2018’s God of War a shot, the action-focused nature of the game and complicated controls proved tough to handle. “The controllers now… Press R1, which one’s R1, oh I’m dead! I can’t quite get a hold of that.” he joked.
Despite struggles with the actual game, Moore seems more than capable of handling its adaptation, hailing from his experience with other hit shows like the 2004 Battlestar Galactica reboot, 2019’s For All Mankind, 2014’s Outlander and several episodes of the Star Trek spinoffs. It will be interesting to see how God of War turns out though, as its fantasy nature marks a distinct departure from his usual sci-fi affair.
Apart from having two seasons, not much else has been revealed about the God of War series thus far. The show has seen some major shakeups since its reveal in 2022, undergoing a major creative overhaul late last year that saw it return to the drawing board after the departure of its previous showrunner Rafe Judkins, ultimately leading to Moore taking up the reins.
