Geek Review: 52TOYS MEGABOX Predator

Established in 2015, China-based toymaker 52TOYS has been busy rolling out several lines of mecha animals and characters that transform into, well, cubes. Probably makes them easier to stack and a couple of years back, they even managed to acquire licenses to produce Disney, Marvel and even 20th Century Fox mecha reimaginations of popular characters.

Making good use of the 20th Century Fox license, 52TOYS first rolled out a Xenomorph Alien, complete with Facehugger, Egg, and Chestburster accessories. Earlier this year, the Alien Queen and Power Loader were released, and this time around, the iconic alien hunter, the Predator has arrived.

Out of the box, fans will immediately recognize that this mecha Predator takes cues from the original cult classic movie, Predator, and it comes packed full of accessories. There’s the signature bio-helmet (removeable, of course), shoulder plasma caster (with blast effect), wrist blade gauntlet, medkit, victim skull & spine, hologram map and a weapons carrying case.

The Predator figure measures 10cm tall, with a generous number of articulation points, enabling the figure to pull off an extensive range of poses. As with all of 52TOYS’ creations, the paintwork’s attention to detail and build quality are top notch. Nice little details such as the retractable wrist blade gauntlet on its right arm, and the detonator LED watch on its left arm are bound to satisfy every Predator fan.

When transforming the mecha Predator into cube form, one can’t help but notice how much thought was put into designing it. Each fold and twist of its limbs snap beautifully into place. We especially love how the transformation into cube form even manages to fit all the accessories in nicely as well. Yes, every, single, piece of accessory. Once transformed, it fits perfectly into the clear box holder provided, which collectors can use to stack all their MEGABOX toys.

Once again, 52TOYS has produced yet another pop-culture collectible that fans of the franchise won’t be able to resist. The only problem right now is the availability of 52TOYS figures, they are currently only sold on Taobao and a limited range on AliExpress.

We can’t wait to see what else they have in the pipeline next. A RoboCop or T.M.N.T. range perhaps?

The ultimate transformable chibi mecha Predator has arrived, and can even come packed in cube form, for ease of shipping.
