Geek Preview: First 20 Minutes Of Doctor Strange Sequel Throws Viewers Straight Into The Craziness

*Warning: mild discussion of scenes in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.*

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is releasing in less than a week, and we had the privilege to catch a preview of the highly-anticipated movie by Marvel Studios earlier today.

The preview was 20 minutes of the first half of the movie. From the get-go, viewers are thrown into the world and in classic Sam Raimi style, it is bursting with bright colours and stunning visual effects.

The first 20 minutes also provide answers to who Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams) is getting married to, establish how Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) meets America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) and introduce what the multiverse is, as well as what is at stake.

Fans also get to see Sorceror Supreme Wong (Benedict Wong) in action and find out what’s been happening with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) since the events of WandaVision.

In a particular scene between Strange, Wong and Chavez, the young hero reveals more about herself and thus far, it seems like the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hero is keeping with her comic book origins.

The first 20 minutes briefly teases that there is a much larger villain at play than what the heroes (and viewers) first imagined, confirmed a few theories that have been floating about on the internet (which ones? we won’t tell you) and saw extended footage of characters we’ve seen in the trailers such as Chavez, Palmer and Defender Strange.

In all, the preview is essentially an extended look at the trailers we’ve seen so far, so if you’ve been scratching your heads in confusion with regards to what the trailers mean, fear not that some of your questions would be answered at the start.

That said, the first 20 minutes felt incredibly short which proves that director Raimi is not kidding around with pacing. The movie is fast-paced and spends no time dilly-dallying. With plenty of things discussed and revealed just within the first 20 minutes, fans are for sure in for a much wilder ride when the full movie releases.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres on 4 May 2022.
