New ‘Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness’ Promo Establishes The Illuminati

We’ve always known that the Illuminati will make an appearance in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness but this time Marvel confirms it front and center.

In the above promo spot “Time”, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is brought forth to a council and Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) announces, “Stephen Strange, The Illuminati will see you now.”

Sounds like the waiting room of a doctor but this might be far worse.

After all, why would Karl Mordo be aligned with the Illuminati?

In the comics, we know that the Illuminati are a group of superheroes who have joined forces and work behind the scenes. Often, to extremely poor results requiring extensive cover ups. Originally, the group is comprised of Namor, Tony Stark, Reed Richards aka Mr Fantastic, Black Bolt, Doctor Stephen Strange, and Professor Xavier.

We do know that a certain individual with a bald head with an English accent made an appearance a few months ago which alludes to the debut of Professor Xavier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Outside of the core group, we do know that there are missing gaps to fill in existing MCU but given the multiversal nature of the upcoming movie, these can be easily addressed. While Tony Stark might be dead in the current continuity, someone else might fill his shoes. The same goes for Reed Richards and Black Bolt who have existed outside of the MCU previously with FOX (before the merger) and ABC (as a TV series) respectively.

An interesting tidbit was that the Illuminati was first mentioned in Empire magazine in March, but it was never confirmed by Marvel, until now.
