The cinematic universe of The Hunger Games is expanding with the release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes!
Diving 64 years into the past, this adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ 2020 prequel delves deep into the origins of President Coriolanus Snow.
Before becoming the tyrannical white-haired president played masterfully by Donald Sutherland in the original films, Snow was a determined teenager. Although orphaned and on the brink of poverty, young Snow shone at the Academy. His standout moment came when chosen to mentor a tribute for the 10th Hunger Games, the fiery and melodious Lucy Gray Baird from District 12. This new film spotlights their relationship and the defining Hunger Games that carved Snow’s path to tyranny.
The story unfolds in a time preceding Katniss Everdeen’s uprising. In this era, an 18-year-old Snow, portrayed by Tom Blyth, represents the last glimmer of his deteriorating family legacy. As the 10th Hunger Games looms, he’s taken aback when assigned the tribute from destitute District 12, Lucy Gray Baird (Rachel Zegler). However, Lucy Gray’s captivating singing performance during the reaping ceremony sparks a strategic idea for Snow. Together, blending their flair for theatrics and budding political cunning, they embark on a perilous journey, unveiling who truly is the songbird and the snake.
The film boasts a star-studded cast including Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and the Oscar-winning Viola Davis.
