HBO Sets Releases For ‘The Last Of Us’, House of the Dragon’ Sequels, ‘Euphoria’ & More

HBO is going full throttle ahead. The network has revealed the release schedules for several of its highly-anticipated heavyweight projects during a press event in New York, starting from House of the Dragon in 2024. Consisting of eight episodes, the second season of the acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel will air in “early summer of 2024”, with the reporters in attendance given an exclusive screening of its first trailer. Contents of the footage, however, are currently being kept under an embargo.

HBO chief Casey Bloys confirmed during the media presentation that the sequel has wrapped filming and is currently in post-production. Additionally, the Game of Thrones spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is expected to begin shooting next spring, pending the end of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Facing the same plight, The Last of Us Season 2 begins production in spring 2024 and is likely coming in 2025. Also slated for this release window are Euphoria season three, The White Lotus season three, and Welcome to Derry, HBO’s prequel series to Stephen King’s novel It.

It’s a pretty stacked lineup, though much of the details for some projects remain under wraps. For instance, no casting has yet been announced for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which will chronicle the story of “Dunk” (the future Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Ser Duncan the Tall) and “Egg” (the future king Aegon V Targaryen) as they wander Westeros having adventures roughly 100 years before the events of the novels.

Meanwhile, the second season of House of the Dragon stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans. Other returning cast members from Season 1 include Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall and Matthew Needham, while Gayle Rankin (playing Alys Rivers), Simon Russell Beale (Ser Simon Strong), Freddie Fox (Ser Gwayne Hightower), and Abubakar Salim (Alyn of Hull) are newcomers.

The Last of Us Season 2 Writers' Strike

As for The Last of Us Season 2, the show is based on Naughty Dog’s hit game The Last of Us Part II. It will introduce a new character named Abby, and is set to be split across more than one season.
