Singapore Toy, Game & Comic Convention (STGCC) is Singapore’s biggest pop culture convention and it is back this year on September 8-9, 2018, with more toys, games, and comics for any geeks out there. What can geeks and con-goers expect from this year’s STGCC?
There are plenty of things to see, but LEGO is definitely one that should be watched. LEGO will be unveiling five interactive Voltron-themed lion figurines (not the recently launched Lego Ideas set which we reviewed) based on the Voltron: Defender of the Universe TV series. Leandro Tayag, the designer behind Voltron: Defender of the Universe, will be there to sign Voltron merchandise as well. Along with the launch of the LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle set on September 1, 2018, the set will also be available in limited quantity at STGCC. Expect a cornucopia of other LEGO events as well, like a speed building event and a building area where fans can then take photos with their creations.
What else is there to see? Good Gaming Experience (GGXP), along with organiser Agri Mind, will be hosting the Singapore qualifier round of the World Electronic Sports Games, supported by Alisports (Alibaba Group’s sports branch) and Singapore’s Cybersports & Online Gaming Association. Gaming athletes will duke it out on games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, Dota 2, Starcraft II and Vainglory.
It wouldn’t be a convention without guests, and this year’s STGCC certainly have plenty of them. Meet the people behind some of the biggest superhero projects, cartoons, comics, and anime. Some names to expect are Agnes Garbowska (My Little Pony, Grumpy Cat), Frank Cho (Shanna the She-Devil, Hulk), Arthur “Art” Adams (Spiderman, Godzilla), Kana Ueda (Fate Series, Nanoha Series), and many more. There will also be plenty of cosplayers and artists to satisfy all your geeky needs.
