Sony has recently launched the Xperia™ 1 III and Xperia™ 5 III, expanding the series of devices that integrate high-end photography with smartphone technology.
These smartphones are the first to feature a variable telephoto lens paired with a dual PD sensor. More specifically, they feature 70mm and 105mm focal length in the same periscope camera and have that paired with a Dual Pixel Diode sensor. Co-developed by engineers behind the Alpha series cameras, both models are designed to be able to capture accurate shots of moving subjects. Not only that, the Photography Pro function mirrors many of the manual controls as seen in the Alpha series, including ISO, shutter speed, EV Indicator, RAW support, and a dedicated shutter button.
There is a new Basic Mode which introduces a touch shutter button, portrait orientation, bokeh effect, panorama and more, making it much easier for users to tap into the full potential of the Xperia™.
The suite of features the Xperia™ 1 III and Xperia™ 5 III boast is impressive – 20fps burst mode with low light noise reduction, AI super resolution zoom, real-time tracking, 4K HDR OLED 120Hz refresh rate display, 360 reality audio and spatial sound. They offer options for photographers to experiment, but also satisfy the smartphone side of the equation with a great 6.5-inch display for the 1 III and a 6.1-inch display for the 5 III with 21:9 aspect ratio for watching videos and for gaming, with speakers that ensure musicians are heard the way they intend to be heard.
These smartphones are not just great for photography and videography, they have anything users may want in a smartphone, and with a 4,500mAh battery, there will be sufficient power to keep these beasts running.
In terms of the hardware, the Xperia™ 1 III and Xperia™ 5 III are built to be durable. The former boasts a frosted glass back, blasted metal frame, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, while the latter boasts a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 on its back and display, a mirror-glass finish, and metal frame. Both models also feature an IP65/68 rating, making them water-resistant.
