Despite negative critical reviews, with a measly score of just 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, it seems this didn’t deter fans or the general audience, as the jump-scare-filled sequel managed to snag an impressive US$63 million at the United States box office, with an additional US$46.1 million from 76 other international markets, a noteworthy feat considering its US$36 million budget before marketing, as reported by Variety.

Helmed by returning director Emma Tammi, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 continues the tale of ex-security guard Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson, The Hunger Games) as he ventures back to the cursed pizzeria to uncover the true origins of the animatronics and the dark secrets held within.

Joining Schmidt are returning stars Piper Rubio,  Elizabeth Lail (You), Theodus Crane (The Walking Dead) and Matthew Lillard (Scooby-Doo) as Schmidt’s sister Abby, Vanessa Shelly, Jeremiah and William Afton, respectively.

Zootopia 2

It wasn’t just animatronics that dominated the weekend charts, as Disney’s Zootopia 2 continues to rake in the magic following an already stellar opening weekend, with its global earnings now at a staggering US$915.8 million and projected to hit the US$1 billion mark by this week. With these numbers, the animated sequel now ranks third in Hollywood’s worldwide release charts for 2025, and number one internationally.

The buddy cop sequel reunites Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin, Once Upon a Time) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman, Ozark) as they team up once more for a new mystery when a venomous snake arrives in the animal metropolis.

Joining the pair are returning stars such as Idris Elba as Chief Bogo, Nate Torrence as Clawhauser, Jenny Slate as Bellweather, Alan Tudyk as Duke Weaselton, singer Shakira as Gazelle, Tommy Chong as Yax, and Maurice LaMarche as Mr Big.

Wicked: For Good

Elsewhere at the weekend box office, Universal’s other sequel, Wicked: For Good, continues with its impressive earnings by garnering an additional US$16.8 million in its third weekend, bringing its total gross to US$440.1 million worldwide. Gkids’ Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution, the animated film made by combining certain portions of the anime series, secured fourth place on the box office charts with a US$10.2 million debut, while Lionsgate’s Now You See Me, Now You Don’t came in fifth with an additional US$3.5 million to reach a global earning of US$209 million.
