We finally have some news on Cruella 2, after an interview with Emma Stone at the Palm Springs International Film Festival shed light on the progress of the sequel in development.
Shooting on Cruella 2 will “hopefully begin sooner than later”, said Emma Stone, who stars as the titular character, when asked about the film, and that it was a “work in progress.”
Cruella, released in 2021, was a box office hit, with audiences praising its commentary on the fashion industry and unique take on the story. A sequel was announced soon after, with Stone reprising her role as Cruella, who will likely embrace her villainous tendencies, after the first film dealt with her origin story.
Stone has embraced the role, saying that Cruella “is a blast” to play. Not much is known about the upcoming sequel, but Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara are set to return as well.
Set in London during the punk rock movement of the 1970s, the first film revolves around Estella Miller, an aspiring fashion designer, as she explores the path that leads her to become a notorious up-and-coming fashion designer known as Cruella de Vil.
