FromSoftware’s Elden Ring has sold 28.6 million copies worldwide to date, making it not only the best-selling game from the studio but also outselling the entire Dark Souls series prior to its release.

Publisher Bandai Namco revealed the latest sales numbers for the game as of September 2024 during the announcement of its spin-off multiplayer title, Elden Ring: Nightreign at The Game Awards 2024.
According to Niko Partners director of research and insights Daniel Ahmad on X/Twitter, prior to Elden Ring’s release in February 2022, the Dark Souls series in its entirety had sold 27 million copies worldwide, meaning the title singlehandedly surpassed the entire franchise’s sales numbers by over a million copies – an amazing feat indeed considering how long-running the Dark Souls series is, with the first title released back in 2011.
It should be noted, though, that these numbers reflect data from 2022, and that the Dark Souls series has received a significant sales boost since the release of Elden Ring, raising the number to over 39 million copies sold to date. Still, sales figures for the Elden Ring franchise are expected to increase with the upcoming release of Elden Ring: Nightreign.

The multiplayer FromSoftware title is set to be the studio’s most ambitious title to date, with director Junya Ishizaki confirming during an interview with Famitsu that enemies from across the Dark Souls series will make an appearance in the game, such as The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3 who can be spotted in the reveal trailer. It is not currently known if enemies from other FromSoftware titles like Bloodborne or Sekiro would make an appearance, however.
Elden Ring: Nightreign will be a standalone multiplayer experience, due out sometime in 2025 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
