Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw was no doubt one of the breakout blockbusters of 2019. The dynamic duo of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham as Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw respectively wowed audiences with their on-screen chemistry, mixed with high-octane action, as a typical Fast movie would.
And now we’ve got good news — it looks as though we’re going to get a sequel!

While the first movie’s writer Chris Morgan did go on record to express his desire to bring back the unnamed leader of the villainous organisation Eteon in a future story, the sequel was explicitly confirmed by Johnson himself, who said it on an Instagram Live Q&A (via ScreenRant).
“We are developing now the next film, the next [Hobbs & Shaw] movie, and I’m pretty excited about it (sic),” exclaimed Johnson. “Just gotta figure out the creative right now, and the direction we’re going to go.”
Indeed, the ending of Hobbs & Shaw paved the way for potential sequels, or even direct tie-ins to the main Fast & Furious movies. Vanessa Kirby could see a return as Deckard’s badass sister Hattie Shaw, or even Eiza González as Madam M, as both did play rather important roles in this movie. Similarly, Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart as CIA Agents Victor Locke and Air Marshal could potentially return too. And of course, not forgetting the enigmatic Eteon organisation, whose leader is still unidentified.

In any case, we’re hoping that the development and release of Hobbs & Shaw 2 won’t be impacted (severely, at least) by the delay of Fast & Furious 9. For now, we can only hope for the best.
