Some sisters don’t get along – and that’s okay. Dune: The Sisterhood has added Olivia Williams and Jodhi May to the cast, following the exit of previously announced cast members Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma.
Henderson left the project due to creative changes, while Varma’s departure was due to conflicting schedules. Williams will play Tula Harkonnen, while May plays Natalya.
The stars aren’t the only ones tapping out though. Director Johan Renck departed the series with Henderson and creator Diane Ademu-John stepped down as co-showrunner. However, Ademu-John will remain as executive producer.
Anna Foerster takes over as Dune: The Sisterhood‘s new director. Foerster previously directed Lou and worked across Westworld, Carnival Row and Jessica Jones.
Set in the world of Dune 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: The Sisterhood follows the Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect known as the Bene Gesserit. The prequel is based on the novel Sisterhood of Dune by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
No release date has been confirmed, but Dune: The Sisterhood will likely premiere on Max sometime in 2024.
In other Dune news, a new trailer has been dropped for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. While we’ve not heard confirmations from Villeneuve himself, it is said that Dune: Part Two is just the second installment of a reported three-part epic saga (via Deadline). Dune: Part 2 releases in theatres on 3 November.
