Dune Is Getting A Tabletop RPG, Scheduled For 2020

2020 is going to be a huge year for the Dune franchise. Most notably, the movie based on Frank Herbert’s iconic science fiction novels will be getting a reboot this Holiday season, and now we’ve learned that it will also be getting a new tabletop role-playing game set to release around the same period as well.

Dune: Adventures in the Imperium by UK publisher Modiphius Entertainment (Star Trek: Adventures, Dishonored, The Elder Scrolls: Call to Arms) is set to release sometime between late 2020 and early 2021, and will be produced in collaboration with Legendary Pictures (who is also producing the Dune movie) and the Herbert estate (via Polygon).

Based on Modiphius’ patented 2d20 (two 20-sided dice) system, Adventures in the Imperium will primarily be set in the Pashidah Imperium. Players will play characters who are members of one of the Great Houses of the Landsraad, which includes the likes of House Atreides, House Corrino and House Harkonnen. However, there’s also the option to build their own House within the Imperium as well.

Though not much is known about Dune: Adventures in the Imperium, interested players can sign up for updates on the Modiphius website. A beta test is scheduled to take place sometime later this year.

Meanwhile, the Dune movie by Denis Villeneuve will premiere on 17 December 2020.
