JJ Lin Headlines Disney+ Singapore Launch Event Spectacular On 24 February

How do you prepare for a massive launch this side of the world, where the galaxy’s biggest heroes from Marvel Comics, Star Wars and more are coming to homes in Singapore?

In a take-no-prisoners approach, Disney wants to make sure everyone knows of their new streaming service, which is why they are assembling some of the biggest stars in Singapore showbiz (ala Nick Fury) for a night of celebration!.

In an event spectacular dubbed “A Night of Disney+”, which will premiere on 24 February at 8pm on Channel 5, Channel 8, meWatch, Starhub Ch 111/825 and Disney+ (SG)’s Facebook page, the House of Mouse is celebrating Disney+’s launch on 23 February with a night to remember.

Headlining the event is popular Asian celebrity and Singaporean JJ Lin, who will lend his star power to the American company’s launch. Rather than fill the event with Western stars, Disney know that JJ Lin appeals to the Asian (or karaoke) leaning folks, allowing the company to tap into a demographic they aren’t traditionally known for.

JJ Lin.

Leaning toward a far younger demographic, Nathan Hartono, more famously known for his accomplishments for Sing!China will be part of the showcase as well.

Wrapping up the showcase (for now) would be Benjamin Kheng and Annette Lee who have been making waves on the Internet. Benjamin Kheng is best known for his work with The Sam Willows and The BenZi Project (which offers solid non-listicle content on Singapore’s YouTube). Lee, who is known for creating solid comedy content on her socials, is a frequent collaborator with Kheng.

From the looks of the teaser trailer, there seems to be some sort of AR image projection on some of the buildings around the Marina Bay area, which will bring some of Disney’s famed projection mapping to the Marina Bayfront for the grand finale of the launch celebrations.

Do note that the rest of the performances mentioned above will only be televised LIVE on 24 February at 8pm on Channel 5, Channel 8, meWatch, Starhub Ch 111/825 and Disney+ (SG)’s Facebook page.

This approach is reminiscent of how Disney+ landed in Indonesian market back in September 2020. With a lack of live concerts in a time of COVID, Disney was able to bring together celebrities, singers, and filmmakers of renown to entertain Indonesian audiences virtually.

Now, it seems that Singaporeans will be getting a taste of that Disney magic pretty soon.

Disney+ will be available DIRECT from Disney from 23 February onwards.
