Rumour has it that the House of Mouse will be setting up shop really soon in Thailand. Following the announcement of Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia earlier this month, Thailand may just receive its own Disney+ Hotstar very soon, with many speculating it will launch on 30 June 2021.
Should Disney+ Hotstar Thailand follow the footsteps of Hotstar Malaysia, fans can expect the choice of an annual, monthly or three-month direct-to-consumer subscription option. An annual subscription is rumored to go for THB799 (US$25), whereas a monthly subscription is likely to cost THB67 (US$2.13).
No distributing partners nor content libraries have been announced, but the service should offer Thai users the standard Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and National Geographic content. Hotstar titles may include popular films and series like Modern Family and The Simpsons as well as titles from the region including Bollywood movies. The platform has not confirmed its slate of local Thai titles, but the chances of the platform carrying them are high.
This would be the third rollout of the Disney+ Hotstar platform in Southeast Asia after Indonesia in September 2020 and soon in Malaysia on 1 June 2021. The full Disney+ service is available in Singapore for S$11.98 (US$9) monthly or an annual fee of S$119.98 (US$90).
Disney has yet to confirm these rumours, but for the sake of Thai fans, we hope it’s true!
