Danny DeVito Wants To Reprise Role Of Philoctetes In Disney’s Live-Action ‘Hercules’

Danny DeVito is interested to be a part of Disney’s upcoming live-action Hercules film. The actor voiced Philoctetes, Phil for short, in the 1997 Disney animated film.

“If they don’t put me in that, they don’t have a hair on their ass,” DeVito said in an interview with Wired. “I am the live-action ‘Hercules’!”

In the original animated movie, Philoctetes is a satyr who trains the young Hercules to be a hero. The character was well-loved by viewers as he was constantly pulling wise-cracking jokes when turning the demigod from zero to hero.

The character is arguably as iconic as the original film itself and set a foundation for many of DeVito’s millennial fans who would later follow him in projects such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Currently, DeVito is working as a producer and voices Satan in FX’s series, Little Demon. The series also starts Aubrey Plaza and his daughter Lucy DeVito. Guest stars on the very new series include Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Brooks.

The new Hercules movie will be directed by Guy Ritchie, who also directed the live-action adaptation of Aladdin. Anthony and Joe Russo will be producing the new film and Dave Callaham wrote the first draft of the script.

Currently, no big-name stars have been cast for the Hercules live-action movie.
