Dance Dance Revolutionising The Big Screen!

Remember heading down to the arcade the moment school’s out just to get on that flashy, neon-pink-and-blue rhythm machine? Or maybe you were just standing on the sidelines, eyeballing some incredibly proficient player’s super intense footwork and flashy freestyle dancing. Or, if you were that much of a social recluse, you would have at least seen the crowds gathered around the sizeable machine while someone in the middle showed off their moves.

And now, the ever iconic dance machine, Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), will be making its way to the silver screen with Greg Silverman’s (Edge of Tomorrow) Stampede Ventures at its helm.

Okay, we know what you’re thinking: how the hell is an arcade rhythm machine going to be translated into a movie? Well, Stampede’s announced that the film will be set in a world that’s already screwed six ways to Sunday, and therefore relies on the unifying powers of dance for its salvation, which… sounds like a pretty outrageous idea, but hey, it could potentially be a lot of satirical fun. Yes, we’re currently side-eyeing the Step Up series.

They will be partnering with producers J. Todd Harris (So B. It, Wheelman) and Marc Marcum (Lucky Stiff) from Branded Entertainment and Konami for the project; and Cara Fano, who’s worked with Silverman from his Warner Bros. days has been promoted to director of development.

While our expectations for the film aren’t exactly set high, we’ll probably be looking out for it just for the sheer curiosity about how they’re going to pull it off.
