CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is a rare success comeback story, and its hot streak isn’t stopping anytime soon. The game’s massive 2.0 update introduced a host of new features — including additional combat enhancements, a revamped police system, and a complete cyberware revamp — but it also packed a surprise for fans of its anime counterpart, Cyberpunk: Edgeunners.
Or a heart-rending tribute, more like.

As spotted by redditor FirmAd6452, this new patch has dedicated a touching tribute to the fallen cast of Netflix’s anime series. “F***king heartbreaking,” reads the post detailing four graffiti murals, which are located in Westbrook District’s North Oak Columbarium. Under them are lines of text seemingly written by Lucy, the sole survivor of the show, with the biggest emotional punch being David’s epitaph. “You didn’t take me to the Moon, but you were here with me,” it says, in reference to the heartbreaking final scene of the series and its accompanying soundtrack.
Produced by Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Promare), the 10-episode Edgerunners takes place a year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077, and charts David’s growth from an ambitious, punky teenager to a cold mercenary. Along the way, he teams up with other talented hired guns to complete various missions, but in true Cyberpunk fashion, ultimately meets his demise at the hands of Adam Smasher. By the end of the show, Lucy is the only one who made out of the fight alive.
Joining the memorials for David and his mother, Gloria Martinez are Rebecca, Julio, and surprisingly Kiwi, as well as another for Pilar, Dorio, and Maine. The easter egg has prompted players to theorise that Lucy could be hiding out somewhere in Night City, but there’s no way to know for sure until someone actually crosses path with her. It’s a terrible day for rain, indeed…
Cyberpunk 2077 welcomes its first and only major DLC, Phantom Liberty on 26 September. The expansion sees Keanu Reeves reprising his role as Johnny Silverhand, and Idris Elba’s debut as the secret agent Solomon Reed. After that’s done and dusted, CD Projekt Red will be shifting its focus to The Witcher 4, which currently has around 250 developers working on it.
