Colin Farrell Promises ‘The Penguin’ Series Will Be Incredibly Dark & Violent

The first trailer for Max’s The Penguin series did not disappoint, and a year later, we finally have more news shortly before the series’ release in late 2024. Colin Farrell, who plays the titular character, Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin, teased that the series would stay true to its violent roots.

“It’s dark, that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s really dark. It’s really heavy, I think – it certainly was doing it. Which is not to say I didn’t have fun, I had an amazing time doing it. It’s incredibly violent,” said Farrell in an interview with MovieZine, “It’s one man’s rise to what he’s always dreamed of inhabiting which is a certain power or social status. The death of Carmine Falcone at the end of [The Batman] the film, leaves this vacuum in Gotham to be filled and so there are various people that are grabbing for that power and this is Oswald’s journey trying to rise to the top through extraordinary obstacles.”

The Penguin will pick up where The Batman left off in Gotham still recovering from the damage that flooded the city, and the series will run for eight episodes. In addition to Farrell, The Penguin also stars Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs) as Sofia Falcone, Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Alberto Falcone, and Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Salvatore Maroni.
