‘The Penguin’ Trailer Reveals New Kingpin Of Gotham In ‘The Batman’ Spin-off

The Batman 2 may still be a ways away, but Colin Farrell will be returning as Oswald Cobblepot in The Penguin, a spin-off series that will chart the villain’s rise to power. The series is said to be set one week after the events of The Batman, and will run for eight episodes.

A new behind-the-scenes production teaser of the series was unveiled as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement of its streaming service Max, a combination of the HBO Max and Discovery+ services.

The first look at the series explores the seedy underbelly of Gotham, which retains the dark, orange-tinted aesthetic of The Batman. Farrell kills the role as the sinister rising gangster Oswald Cobblepot.

The actor previously shared in an interview with Extra a brief tease of what fans can expect from the series, saying, “So, Gotham is still, somewhat, underwater. I read the first script of the first episode and it opens up on my feet splashing through the water in Falcone’s office. Even that alone, when I read it, I was like, ‘Oh, Jesus!’”

In addition to Farrell, The Penguin also stars Cristin Milioti (Palm Springs) as Sofia Falcone, Michael Zegen (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Alberto Falcone, and Clancy Brown (John Wick: Chapter 4) as Salvatore Maroni. The show is set to debut in 2024 on Max.
