There’s been plenty of hype for the movie since a live-action Legend of Zelda film was announced, and director Wes Ball (The Maze Runner) teases that he has an “awesome” idea for the movie.
Ball previously shared that the film would be an “awesome fantasy-adventure movie that isn’t like Lord of the Rings“, reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki’s work. In a recent update, he went on to tease that he “want(s) to fulfil people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie. A real movie that can give people an escape.”
Despite its serious tone, Ball intends to balance it out with some fun and whimsy, though exact plot details have yet to be revealed. The live-action Legend of Zelda film was announced in November 2023 by Nintendo and Sony, and is currently in development. Game developer Shigeru Miyamoto serves as producer. Avi Arad, whose credits include every live-action Spider-Man movie and the Spider-Verse animated features, is co-producing, while Jurassic World screenwriter Derek Connolly will pen the script.
The Zelda franchise has many games to choose from for a live-action adaptation, and we’re excited to find out which one the film will go with as a first entry.
