Netflix has recently confirmed that Oscar-nominee Barry Keoghan (Eternals, The Banshees of Inisherin) will be joining the cast of the much-anticipated Peaky Blinders movie.
This announcement follows a report by Deadline and adds Keoghan to a stellar lineup that includes Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer) and Rebecca Ferguson (Dune: Part Two). The film, directed by Tom Harper (who also directed three episodes of the series), is shrouded in secrecy with few details about Keoghan’s role available at this time.
The project, which Netflix greenlit in June, marks a continuation of the acclaimed TV series. Cillian Murphy will reprise his role as Tommy Shelby, the formidable leader of the Birmingham gangster family that the series revolves around.
Barry Keoghan, known for his compelling performances, has recently garnered critical acclaim, securing a BAFTA and Golden Globe nomination for his role in last year’s Saltburn. He also won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and received nominations for the Golden Globe and Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin. Moreover, he has had significant roles as Druig in Eternals and as the Joker in The Batman.
The forthcoming movie, set during World War II, promises to extend the gripping narrative of the original six-season series. Steven Knight, the creator of Peaky Blinders, has penned the script and will produce the film alongside Caryn Mandabach, Guy Heeley, and Murphy. The team of executive producers includes Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason.
While the release date for the Peaky Blinders movie has not yet been disclosed, production is expected to commence later this year, signalling a new chapter for fans of the iconic gangster saga. This film adaptation aims to deliver the same intense drama and complex storytelling that made the television series a global phenomenon.
