It appears that the console market is well and alive indeed, with Atari releasing new information about their latest console in over 20 years, the Ataribox, in an online newsletter. Definitively sleeker than what we are used to from Atari, it retains the classic wooden design, with a ribbed and raised back, and will also be available in a black/red edition.

While the specs are not known yet, images reveal that the Ataribox will have an SD slot, HDMI output, and four USB ports. It would seem that not only is Atari bringing back the classics, they will “also be delivering current gaming content.” Could this mean that Atari will be publishing new games, we can only wonder as details are scarce.

Thanks to Eurogamer, we now know that the Ataribox is to be crowdfunded, as an investor’s note stated that “to limit risk taking, this product will initially be launched within the framework of a crowdfunding campaign.”
