Apple Launches Developer Tools & Global Labs For Vision Pro Spatial Headset, Including One In Singapore

Following the long-awaited announcement of its Vision Pro spatial headset, Apple is looking to kick things into high gear for developers. The tech giant will open developer labs in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore, and Tokyo starting next month, allowing professionals to test their apps on the Apple Vision Pro hardware and get support from Apple engineers.

visionOS, the world’s first spatial operating system that the headset runs on, has also received a software development kit (SDK). These new tools are set to offer app-building experiences across productivity, design, gaming, and other categories, joining existing Apple technologies like Xcode, SwiftUI, RealityKit, ARKits, and TestFlight.

Complete HeartX, for instance, uses hyper-realistic 3D models and animations to prepare medical students for clinical practice through visualisation, while the djay app features a full DJ system right at the user’s fingertips which transforms their surroundings with environments that automatically react to their mix.

Elsewhere, JigSpace touts improved idea communication. By using high-resolution CAD files companies already have, marketing, sales, product, or support teams can securely collaborate with colleagues or customers from anywhere in the world. Lastly, PTC leverages on AR solution to collaborate on critical business problems, such that stakeholders across departments and in different locations can review content simultaneously to make design and operation decisions.

The visionOS SDK is now available for Apple Developer Program members. Other notable software updates include an all-new tool available with Xcode called Reality Composer Pro, which lets developers preview and prepare 3D models, animations, images, and sounds, as well as the ability to port Unity apps to Apple Vision Pro.
