The original Tron movie starring Jeff Bridges debuted in 1982 and generated a cult following. In the film, Kevin (Bridges), a software programmer, is dragged into the virtual world where he is pitted against a malevolent software. He takes the help of Tron, a security programme that helps him defeat the villain.

The sequel, Tron: Legacy, also starred Bridges alongside Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. In the sequel, Hedlund plays Sam, the son of the virtual world designers and enters a virtual space that has become much more dangerous than his father intended. Both father and son embark upon a life-and-death journey in this sequel.

No plot has been revealed for Tron: Ares. Despite the new actors attached, it was previously reported that Tron: Ares will be a sequel, not a reboot.
