A24’s hit horror film Backrooms continues to rake in the cash at the box office, with the movie now crossing the US$350 million milestone and setting top records for the studio in a number of countries.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Backrooms’ global gross has now reached US$357 million, making it A24’s top-grossing film in several countries, including China, where it is nearing US$15 million, and France, where it topped the studio’s previous contender, Marty Supreme (2025). Additionally, the film is also the top earner for the studio in Thailand, Russia, and Poland.
Based on Kane Parsons’ hit horror web series, Backrooms follows a furniture store owner (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who finds a secret doorway that leads him to a seemingly endless stretch of nondescript rooms. When he subsequently disappears, his therapist (Renate Reinsve) then ventures into the strange Backrooms to rescue him. The film quickly became Hollywood’s top-earning original horror flick following its launch, surpassing recently released big-budget projects like Scream 7 and Mortal Kombat II, a feat especially impressive considering its director’s humble roots, alongside its small US$10 million budget.

With its massive success, it’s no surprise that A24 is already gearing up for a sequel, with Deadline’s sources reporting that Parsons is already looking for a screenwriting collaborator to work on the sequel to expand the Backrooms film IP, with the filmmaker previously expressing his hopes to turn the franchise into a feature anthology.
