Capcom Plans To Revive ‘Devil May Cry’, ‘Ace Attorney’, ‘Mega Man’ And More Dormant Franchises

At a time when reboots and remakes have grown in popularity, Capcom has led the charge with the modern Resident Evil games, while its pipeline includes two upcoming projects from dormant franchises: an Okami sequel and a brand-new Onimusha instalment.

But what of the rest? In its most recent financial report, the company said that it wants to “nurture” some of its classic IPs, such as Mega Man, Devil May Cry, Ace Attorney, Dead Rising, and Dragon’s Dogma, alongside the aforementioned titles — and not just in the form of sequels, remakes, and ports. Similar to the expansion of Devil May Cry into an animated series, there are plans to broaden its fan base through arcade operations, new amusement equipment, and more strategies.

Not all franchises are built equal, however, and some of Capcom’s even older franchises (namely, Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis, or Darkstalkers) are noticeably missing from the list. The report also highlighted updated sales figures for its IPs, with Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter ranking as the top three:

  • Resident Evil: 201 million units
  • Monster Hunter: 127 million units
  • Street Fighter: 59 million units
  • Mega Man: 44 million units
  • Devil May Cry: 38 million units
  • Dead Rising: 19 million units
  • Ace Attorney: 14 million units
  • Dragon’s Dogma: 14 million units
  • Marvel vs. Capcom: 13 million units
  • Onimusha: 9.1 million units
  • Okami: 4.8 million units

The news reaffirms Capcom’s intentions to revisit its historic IPs, coming after the company’s strong start to 2026. Resident Evil Requiem is now the franchise’s fastest-selling entry ever, with Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection receiving critical and fan acclaim upon launch. Pragmata, meanwhile, bodes well for original outings, surpassing the two-million sales milestone in 16 days. Later this year, the Street Fighter live-action adaptation will bring Ryu and gang to life on the big screen.

As for the dormant titles, the last players saw of Dante, Vergil, and Nero was in 2019’s Devil May Cry 5, and Mega Man 11 marked the latest mainline game. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Spirit of Justice was released in 2016, followed by The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve a year later (the rest are re-releases or ports). Similarly, no other new instalments have followed 2016’s Dead Rising 4, while 2024’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 came 12 years after its predecessor.
