Capcom Looking Into New ‘Mega Man’, ‘Sengoku Basara’, And ‘Onimusha’ Games

Mega Man, as a preserving video game icon, has decades of history under its belt. Starting from its early Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) days, it welcomed many more entries and spin-offs over the years, with 2018’s Mega Man 11 being the latest mainline game.

Following the successful launch of Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection, Capcom revealed it’s still thinking about the future of the series. “Including Mega Man 11, the latest entry in the franchise, Mega Man is one of Capcom’s historic IPs and is loved by fans, and as such we want to take care in how we develop the series,” said the company.

“We are considering how to approach the production of new entries in the series, which requires numerous factors, including the development of a solid concept, ideas and gameplay, etc.”

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection sold more than one million units since its release in April this year. Mega Man X Dive Offline is the next project in the pipeline, slated to arrive on Steam, iOS, and Android.

The Blue Bomber isn’t the only one being revisited, however. Capcom hasn’t forgotten about older favourites like Sengoku Basara and Onimusha either, stating it’s “carrying out discussions regarding the future expansion of these titles so they can be enjoyed by a wide audience”, as per the company’s 44th General Shareholders Meeting document.

According to Capcom’s internal data, the Mega Man series has sold over 38 million units to date, which makes it one of the team’s best-selling series. Resident Evil leads the charge with 142 million, followed by Monster Hunter (92 million) and Street Fighter (49 million).
