Xbox Games Showcase Set For June With ‘Gears of War: E-Day’ Getting Dedicated Post-Show Direct

Microsoft’s annual Xbox Games Showcase for 2026 will arrive on 7 June, and this year, it will be headlined by The Coalition’s long-gestating prequel Gears of War: E-Day, which will receive a dedicated post-show direct.

Announced via social media by the company’s new gaming head, Asha Sharma, the Xbox Games Showcase will kick off on 7 June at 10AM PT (8 June 1AM SGT), and will be immediately followed by a “deep dive into Gears of War: E-Day.”

“In my first month, I heard clearly that our community values Xbox FanFest. As part of the return of Xbox, we made the decision to bring it back to LA to recognise the players who’ve been with us over the years,” Sharma’s post reads. “Looking forward to celebrating together!”

Having a dedicated showcase for Gears of War: E-Day certainly marks a long time coming, as the prequel has long been in development, with little more than an in-engine cinematic teaser released since its announcement during the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. Since then, fans have been clamouring for their first gameplay look at the title, which explores the origins of the titular Emergence Day tragedy, a catastrophic event which saw the invasion of the subterranean Locust Horde, through the eyes of a young Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, the two leading heroes of the initial games.

While a solid choice for its own dedicated showcase, Gears of War: E-Day isn’t the only major title in the works from Xbox, as 2026 will also see the launch of two other highly anticipated titles, the Fable reboot and Halo: Campaign Evolved. These two titles currently do not have a set release date, which means that either these two titles will show up in the main show itself, or potentially even release before the Xbox Games Showcase, but that’s wishful thinking at this point.

This year’s main Xbox Games Showcase could also potentially focus on Project Helix, Microsoft’s next-generation hybrid console that will be able to play select PC titles alongside console games, so we could possibly learn more about how expansive or limiting this PC library would be.

The Xbox Games Showcase and Gears of War: E-Day direct will kick off on 7 June 2026.
