‘Return to Silent Hill’ Drops First Trailer, Teasing Psychological Madness & Pyramid Head

After a myriad of teases and behind-the-scenes looks, the Christophe Gans-directed video game film adaptation Return to Silent Hill has finally received its first trailer, offering a first look at the horrors in store alongside a familiar, triangular face.

Return to Silent Hill

Returning for the upcoming film after directing the original 2006 film, Silent Hill, Gans brings his horror expertise to the table, with the 40-second-long trailer, which was officially released on YouTube by IGN, featuring clips of Jeremy Irvine’s (War Horse) character James exploring the iconic foggy town while haunted by what seems to be all manner of psychological visions.

True to the game’s spirit, the film looks to feature numerous monstrosities, both new and returning, with glimpses of what looks to be a multi-handed beast alongside familiar creatures such as the Bubble Head Nurses, the corpse-like Lying Figures, as well as the iconic video game boss, Pyramid Head, which appears every bit as menacing as he did in the original Silent Hill 2.

Return to Silent Hill

Unsurprisingly, the movie will adapt the events of Konami’s 2001 psychological horror game sequel Silent Hill 2, with the film’s synopsis reading: “When a mysterious letter calls him back to Silent Hill in search of his lost love, James finds a once-recognisable town and encounters terrifying figures both familiar and new, and begins to question his own sanity.”

Alongside Irvine as James, the film will also star Hannah Emily Anderson (The Purge) as Mary, who was the deceased wife of James in the original game and had a doppelganger named Maria, who accompanied him on his journey. It’s currently unclear if the show’s storyline would follow in this format, but from how faithful the trailer looks so far, this seems to be the case.

Return to Silent Hill

In any case, fans can take a trip back to the foggy streets of the iconic town, now in a fresh new light, when Return to Silent Hill releases in January 2026.
