Start the new year in 2026, with a throwback to a cinematic horror classic as Geek Culture is hosting its first exclusive movie fan screening of the year with a Return to Silent Hill.
Co-written and directed by Christophe Gans (Brotherhood of the Wolf), the psychological horror film is based on the seminal 2001 video game, Silent Hill 2 (a remake was released in 2024), and stars Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) and Hannah Emily Anderson (What Keeps You Alive).
If the name sounds familiar, Gans directed 2006’s Silent Hill film, but this upcoming movie serves as a standalone entry to the movie franchise, based on the hit survival horror video game series about a town, Silent Hill, plagued by supernatural events and where nightmares manifest into creatures haunting the American town.
Like in the game, the film follows James Sunderland (Irvine), who visits Silent Hill after being separated from his soulmate (his wife in the game) and becomes the target of supernatural beings and inhabitants of the town. Director Gans had originally intended to adapt the second game, but felt he needed to establish the world of Silent Hill in the first movie, before delving into the second game and the noted French filmmaker, started work on this revival back in 2020 and approached his return as an anthology set within the familiar dark town.
