“We started doing Shrek 5 months ago,” said Murphy in an interview with Collider. “I did this. I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well.”

Dreamworks originally planned for five Shrek movies, but felt that the story could be neatly tied up with the fourth film, Shrek Forever After. Years later, the studio decided on a fifth film, and despite several delays, is now in production, with an expected 2025 release date.

And Murphy is looking to return to his signature role for a potential Beverly Hills Cop 5, saying that “creatives are already thinking of a fifth movie. “They’re developing it,” Murphy said. “If it comes together, we’ll be doing another one.” Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also said that “there are a couple of stories in mind” for the fifth instalment, delivering a promising update. Trading Places fans will have to wait a little longer for any updates, with no word on its sequel despite it being talked about for a long time.

We’re excited to see how Shrek 5 ends the film franchise for now, so stay tuned for more developments!
