If the recently announced world’s slimmest ASUS ROG Zephyrus S (GX531) isn’t enough to satiate your on-the-go gaming appetite, then perhaps power-packed new ROG Strix SCAR II (GL704) will.
Geek Culture recently attended a special media preview at the ROG headquarters in Taipei and here are four good reasons why ROG’s latest beast should make your money’s worth.
#1: The Most Compact 17.3″ Gaming Laptop on the Market
The ROG Strix SCAR II (GL704) is the first 17.3-inch laptop clocking in at under 400 mm wide, a feat made possible by the super-narrow bezels surrounding the 17-inch display.
The 7.05mm borders are up to 50% narrower than those found on other 17-inch gaming laptops. To top it all off, the ultrafast display panel also boasts a 144Hz refresh rate and 3ms response time for a silky smooth gameplay experience.
#2: RangeBoost Technology for Wi-Fi Gaming
The ROG Strix SCAR II boasts a RangeBoost multi-antenna design, which extends the system’s Wi-Fi range by up to 30%! This means lower average pings when gaming wirelessly.
#3: Designed for FPS Gamers
In the looks department, the ROG Strix SCAR II is designed with the FPS gamer in mind, with contrasting Kevlar and camouflage textures, and hairline finish brushes across the gunmetal lid.
ASUS’ Aura Sync also enables the gamer to customise the RGB lighting across 7 zones: 4 for the keyboard, 2 on the light bar stretching across the front edge of the laptop and the ROG logo on the lid.
The desktop-style keyboard is armed with a wider space bar, and separated blocks of function keys to make shortcuts easier to execute.
#4: The New Unified Control Center – Armoury Crate
After years of using separate utilities for ROG systems and components, ASUS is finally introducing a unified platform that puts the most important settings at gamers’ fingertips.
Known as the Armoury Crate, it’s a control center that controls the system’s settings and Aura Sync lighting. Gamers can save up to five different profiles with various performance and acoustic settings. From Turbo mode for serious gaming, to Silent mode which cuts down the noise level for watching movies or surfing the net. Each of these modes can be toggled on-the-fly by hitting the Fn + F5 keys without leaving the game.
There’s even a Mobile Dashboard that will be made available for Android and iOS devices, allowing gamers to monitor the ROG’s status and make adjustments without al-tabbing away from games!
