The future of the smartphone camera has jumped to the triple digits, with Chinese tech company Xiaomi launching their new flagship, the Xiaomi 12T Pro, with a massive 200MP camera phone set to dominate the global market.
Granted, this is not the first smartphone to tout a 200MP camera but Motorola only launched its 200MP smartphone earlier this year for China and very few select countries since, which has given other brands the opportunity to get on the 200MP bandwagon.
What sets Xiaomi’s new flagship device apart from other devices of its class, aside from the triple digit upgrade is its main wide angle camera. Backed by a combination of hardware and Xiaomi’s own advanced algorithms, the three major benefits for pro users are unprecedented image clarity, low-light capabilities, and quick focus when capturing fast-moving subjects.
The 12T Pro offers in-sensor 2x zoom and a large 1/1.22″ sensor size ideal for portrait shots. The large sensor, along with 16-in-1 super pixels at 2.56μm, f/1.69, 8P lens, 85° FOV, OIS, and Xiaomi’s Night mode, means users will be able to take bright and clean shots, even in extreme low-light conditions. For those who prefer shooting video, the device supports up to 8K video capture in 24fps (up to 6 minutes in length).
Alongside its main camera is an 8MP ultra-wide angle camera (1/4″ sensor size, 1.12μm pixel size, f/2.2, 120° FOV), a 2MP macro camera (1/5″ sensor size, 1.75μm pixel size, f/2.4), and a 20MP front camera (1/3.47″ sensor size, 0.8μm pixel size, f/2.24, 78° FOV).
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 12T comes with a triple camera array: a 108MP pro-grade main camera, 8MP ultra-wide camera, and 2MP macro camera.
The 12T Pro is powered by the leading Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip which significantly enhances performance, while reducing CPU and GPU power consumption. The 6.67-inch CrystalRes AMOLED display runs at 2712 x 1220 resolution with an AdaptiveSync display that dynamically adjusts its refresh rate based on content viewed (up to 120Hz), and an Adaptive Reading mode where the phone reduces the amount of blue light emitted.
Another notable feature of the 12T Pro is its large 5,000mAh battery and accompanying 120W HyperCharge. The 120W charger that comes packed with the device (thank you Xiaomi for including one in-box) can charge the phone from 0 to 100% in just under 20 minutes!
Xiaomi’s new flagship 12T Pro series comes with a curved frosted back and three colours: black, silver and blue. The Xiaomi 12T Pro comes with 12GB+256GB storage and retails for S$1,099, whereas the 12T comes with 8GB+256GB storage and retails for S$749.
Pre-orders for the 12T series are available via Shopee (12T | 12T Pro) and Lazada (12T | 12T Pro) starting from 5 to 12 October 2022.
